Hello Santiam Canyon Families,
My name is Krista Nieraeth, and I’m honored and excited to be joining this wonderful school community as your new superintendent.
While I may be new to Santiam Canyon, I’m no stranger to small schools. I’m a proud graduate of Bonanza High School, and in my 22 year educational career, I’ve spent 20 of those years working in small schools and districts. In that time, I’ve worn many hats—from driving a small bus to athletic events and field trips, to coaching middle and high school sports, teaching introductory and advanced science and math classes, and serving as both a principal and a superintendent. One of the things I love most about small districts is that it’s truly a team effort—everyone pitches in to make things run smoothly.
My goal as superintendent is simple: to support our students and staff by being present, helping wherever I can, and doing what’s needed to make a positive difference every day.
I believe deeply that all students can learn and succeed. With strong relationships, high expectations, and standing together, we can help students understand that hard work, resilience, and showing up each day are the foundation for success.
I also believe small schools can offer the same great opportunities as larger ones—we just get a little more creative in how we make them happen.
Thank you for the warm welcome and the opportunity to serve this amazing community. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of you and experiencing everything that makes Santiam Canyon such a special place.
Warmly,
Krista Nieraeth
